Charities that I support . . .
So many SCAMS out there . . .

Before a moment of our time or a single $1.00

QUESTIONS WE ALL SHOULD ASK

Almost on a weekly basis I am asked to "Red-Carpet" charity events. I hate saying "NO" but I often do after I ask two questions:

Where do the charity donations go . . . to research scientists or laboratories . . . or to actual patients?

How much of each dollar raised actually reaches the patient?

As many of you might know, since my beloved brother, Harold, died of cancer in 2008 , I have have placed a high priority on the care and cure of cancer, by including standard oncology responses with alternative treatments, including appropriate nutrition (delicious organic cooking), along with sensible responses to the malignant process. I have a special place in my heart for all cancer patients, the babies, the mother's and father's, the older folk.

Next, are the Veterans that come back from far distant lands. Wounded physically and in emotional tatters. It is estimated  that every 80 minutess, a combat veteran takes his or her own life. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder putting our Heroes into jails, divorce courts, and tearing families apart.

I give my support to these charities willingly and ask nothing in return, but often accept a pat-on-the-back from Heaven. Most often, rewards are paid in a currency that cannot be spent in any store and such currency is to be cherished.

NOW, WHY THEN THE QUESTIONS THAT WE ALL SHOULD ASK?

The media, and particularly CNN, have been digging away at the scams. From the "uniformed veteran" outside the shopping mall, claiming to collect for veterans, to the big-time New York scam  that has collected $56 million in three years . . . AND NOT ONE CENT WENT TO A DISABLED VETERAN!

In my next postings I will add some "pages" on the charities that I do actively support. As promised . . .

Grief . . .
             Predictable but Personal

Bear n Kelly, May, 2012

My much loved friend Bear unexpectedly passed away this week. An apparently healthy dog that had a heart attack. Bear was not only a lovable, exuberant  companion  but brave too. He kept the Ranch safe from mountain lions, bears and coyotes.

And in an eye-blink was no longer with us. Tears ran freely.

About tears and grief . . .

In 1970, Sophia Loren had $1/2 million of her uninsured jewelry stolen from her hotel suite in a daring armed take-over robbery. She was not present at the time - fortunately. Today, those gems would be worth $5 million. Sophia was extremely upset.

Her husband, Carlo Ponti held her hand and said "Sophia, you must learn never to cry over something or somebody that would not or could not cry over you."

Bear would have wept over me . . .  thus I surprise myself by weeping at unexpected times. Ambushed by the loss of a friend.

My advice to all is

Love lavishly
and if you need to . . .
Allow those tears to come without embarrassment.
Grief, after all, is such a personal thing.

All dogs go to Heaven . . .
But we do miss you so, Bear - Bear.
